Japan's garabage sorting system is carried out at the municiple level. Each city, town, and district has a completely different system. For new expats, learning the do's and don'ts of their town's disposal rules is cause for concern, especially for those located in the countryside where instructions are not readily available in English.

GomiGata was created in hopes of remedying this issue for expats in the small country town of Nagai, Yamagata. A search query for common disposable items will return instructions for disposing of that item in English.

   items will either be disposed of using the green, non-burnable garbage bag, 「不燃るごみ袋」or have special disposal instructions.

6. Burnable

   items will be disposed of using the burnable, white bag with red text, 「燃るごみ袋」
